Dozens of people were stranded for several minutes after a landslide occurred at kilometer 206 of the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca highway.

Motorists traveling on this highway took alternate routes as the lanes were covered.

Cycling from Caminos Puentes Federales (Capufe) reported the accident on that stretch of road, where road signs were installed to prevent incidents among drivers.

Due to the magnitude of the landslide, they expect traffic to be closed for several days. In addition to removing the material that covered the lanes, they will inspect the area to ensure there is no risk of further landslides.

Images captured by drivers who were near the scene at the time reveal the sound of falling earth and rocks, as well as a large cloud of dust that enveloped the affected area.

At this time, authorities have not reported any people trapped by the landslide.

Members of the National Guard are maintaining security in the damaged area and are informing drivers miles away about the obstruction that is preventing vehicles from passing on what is one of the most important communication routes between this part of the state and the state of Oaxaca.

Drivers traveling from Tehuacán to the state of Oaxaca are being given the option of traveling on the Tehuacán-Huajuapan federal highway.
