The Sinaloa Economic Development Council seeks to boost the south-south region of the state through a tourism corridor connecting rural areas from Mazatlán to Escuinapa.
The Codesin coordinator for this region, Tobías Lozano Solorza, mentioned that the goal is to consolidate a unified destination brand, and Mazatlán can be the spearhead that brings prosperity to neighboring municipalities, with which it shares similarities in tourism offerings.
“We are trying to consolidate a unified destination brand between Mazatlán and all the southern municipalities. Mazatlán must be the spearhead to bring prosperity to the most disadvantaged municipalities, as you know, the other four municipalities that make up the southern zone: San Ignacio, Concordia, Rosario, and Escuinapa, because they don’t have the same opportunities as Mazatlán,” he said.
He added that Mazatlán already has a well-developed brand, but as a sun and beach destination, it now needs to connect its rural area with the rural areas of other municipalities, Concordia, Rosario, Escuinapa, and even San Ignacio.
“We can transfer good practices from El Quelite and La Noria to these municipalities and begin to generate a tourist route for all these rural towns, in such a way that we incentivize a tourism product that will later allow us to sell and promote it,” he added.
He explained that one of the tasks is to increase the number of days a tourist stays here in the port, which can be used to explore these places.
“This year we will be working on a project based on the territorial nature. We will conduct a territorial study to assess the benefits and the products available, and then, with that, we can justify the construction of this corridor,” he added.
Lozano Solorza added that this corridor would be 100 kilometers long, of which 70 kilometers are already in place and only 30 kilometers of interconnection remain.
Agreement Signed
This Thursday, Codesin signed a collaboration agreement with the Mazatlán City Council to promote this and other projects.
