This Wednesday, construction began on the modernization of the Reforma-Dos Bocas short route, which in its initial phase will involve an investment of 202,515,762 pesos.

The groundbreaking for the project was led by Governor Javier May Rodríguez, who announced that the project will improve 11 kilometers of highway extending from the La Isla interchange to the city of Cunduacán, benefiting more than 64,000 residents.

Accompanied by Cunduacán Mayor María de la Cruz López and the Secretary of Territorial Planning and Public Works (SOTOP), Daniel Casasús Ruz, the state governor explained that the repaving of several sections of this communication route should be completed in May. He also announced that the second phase of the project will begin in 2026, which will include the construction of an elevated viaduct to streamline entry and exit from Atenas de la Chontalpa.

“What we seek is to provide safety to users and resolve the traffic congestion that occurs during rush hour at this point, where more than 750,000 vehicles circulate each month, many of them cargo vehicles and heavy machinery,” he stated, highlighting that the social investment of more than 380 million pesos that his administration will allocate in 2025 to carry out works in Cunduacán will not only benefit families, but also boost the economy and generate jobs.

The Chief Executive emphasized that the State Highway Board (JEC) alone, the agency responsible for carrying out the highway rehabilitation, will allocate more than 700 million pesos this year to restore roads in communities throughout the state. He stated that these types of infrastructure actions are what Tabasco needs to improve communication and interconnection between municipalities, although he made it clear that all sectors are being addressed so that no one is left out. He also announced that the rehabilitation of the municipality’s water treatment plant is also underway to guarantee a good water supply service during the upcoming dry season.

For his part, the head of SOTOP, Daniel Casasús, emphasized that the action launched this Wednesday represents a further step toward modernizing and strengthening infrastructure in Tabasco. He emphasized that the improvement of this circuit will strengthen the logistics belt that connects with the Dos Bocas refinery and the Metropolitan Area of Cunduacán, Comalcalco, and Paraíso.

With this project, the state government will strengthen the region’s economic activities, including trade, tourism, and industry, said Casasús Ruz, who emphasized that in the Cunduacán area alone, road rehabilitation, school, drinking water and sanitation projects, and housing projects will be completed this year, an investment that will include a $110 million investment through the State Housing Program.

For her part, Mayor María de la Cruz emphasized that the support of Javier May’s administration for the municipality is not only reflected in the social sphere, with more and better support for women, youth, and rural areas, but also in high-impact projects for the transformation of the entire region, including the upcoming construction of the Chontalpa-Dos Bocas Station freight train.

Finally, the director of the JEC, Mario González Noverola, reported that the first stage of the project will include asphalt paving of isolated sections that are currently unsafe due to their deterioration, in addition to the restoration of drainage systems, the installation of signs and metal barriers, and the reconstruction of return lanes with acceleration and deceleration lanes, among other tasks.
