The First Festival of Popular Cultures of Durango will take place from March 14 to 17, 2025, in Plaza IV Centenario. This event aims to highlight Durango’s cultural diversity, promoting its traditions, dances, music, and folk art, essential components of the state’s identity, according to Francisco Javier Pérez Mesa, director of the Durango State Institute of Culture (ICED).

The festival will begin on Friday, March 14, with a series of children’s workshops, where they can learn how to make beaded bracelets and model clay, among other activities. In addition, a retelling of Durango legends will take place at the Francisco Villa Museum.

The event will continue with music and dance performances, featuring groups such as the Toltecatl Folkloric Company, the Huichol Folkloric Ballet, and the Temachtiani Dance Company.

The official opening of the festival will take place at 6:00 p.m., with a tour of the craft and food exhibition showcasing the best of Durango’s products.

The event will also feature a book launch, such as “Danza de Pluma Colonia Anáhuac de Canatlán,” and musical performances by mariachi, norteño music, and dance groups. Activities will continue on Saturday and Sunday with more workshops, presentations, and tributes, including the 20th Prof. Santos Vega Camargo State Handicraft Award.

The festival will culminate on Monday the 17th with an expo-sale and a fashion show featuring traditional Durango costumes.
