With just 14 days to go until the 497th anniversary of the founding of San Cristóbal de las Casas, the city is filled with tourists arriving to enjoy its pleasant climate. Most of them will stay for more than 15 days, aiming to experience the anniversary festivities firsthand, which will be celebrated on March 31st, a day when the city will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. For this special occasion, various activities organized by local authorities, Catholic churches, and local business owners will be held. The presence of international tourists, primarily from the United States and Europe, is already noticeable.

As announced by Verónica Alcántara, president of the San Cristóbal de las Casas Hotel Association, all members of this association will offer a 30% discount on hotel rates for international, national, and regional tourists. In addition, each hotel has prepared special surprises for guests, with the aim of attracting more visitors to the city. Hoteliers are also promoting San Cristóbal on social media, showing the world the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed in the city, while inviting tourists to enjoy the tourist parks and other attractions of Chiapas.

The festive atmosphere is already evident, with dozens of tourists walking through various streets of San Cristóbal de las Casas. Visitors can be seen enjoying iconic sites such as March 31st Park, the Cathedral Plaza, the pedestrian walkways, and the small squares of historic neighborhoods such as El Carmen, La Merced, Guadalupe, El Cerrillo, Santo Domingo, Mexicanos, Santa Lucía, San Francisco, Cuxtitali, and the Historic Center. Tourists can also be seen on San Cristóbal Hill, where they will enjoy the local cuisine, the warmth of the people, the parks, the tourist centers, and an atmosphere full of culture. Visitors will stay for several days to celebrate the Sancristobalenses Festival and enjoy the festive atmosphere leading up to the anniversary of the city’s founding.

“For all visitors, both international and national, a 30% discount on hotels will be offered, in addition to special surprises at partner hotels. This is possible because San Cristóbal de las Casas and Chiapas have become a place of peace. We invite everyone to come and experience our people and our culture, especially on March 31st, when San Cristóbal will celebrate its 497th anniversary,” said Verónica Alcántara in an interview.

Foreign tourists continue to arrive in San Cristóbal de las Casas, guided from the city center. More tourists are expected to arrive in the coming days, especially during Holy Week, to enjoy Holy Week in this colonial city. With temperatures hovering around 22 degrees Celsius at midday, visitors will enjoy the mild climate and contribute significant economic benefits to restaurateurs, hoteliers, and other businesses, such as candy and craft markets.
