A total of 56 “chelerías” (beer bars) were closed this weekend after the Mexico City Government Secretariat (SECGOB) conducted operations in the municipalities of Gustavo A. Madero, Iztapalapa, Tlalpan, and Cuauhtémoc.

A total of three inter-institutional operations under the “La Noche es de Todos” (Night Belongs to Everyone) program took place on Thursday, March 20, Friday, March 21, and Saturday, March 22. Various institutions participated in the operations, including the Administrative Verification Institute (INVEA), the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), and the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC).

The visits included the Doctores, Obrera, Centro, Tabacalera, and Juárez neighborhoods in the Cuauhtémoc municipality; Coapa and Prados Coapa in the Tlalpan municipality; Zacatenco, Santa María Ticomán, San Felipe de Jesús, Providencia, San Pedro El Chico, Zacahuitzco, Lindavista Sur, San Bartolo Atepehuacan, and Ampliación Progreso Nacional in the Gustavo A. Madero borough; as well as in the vicinity of the Central de Abastos (Bakery Market) in the Iztapalapa borough.

The actions implemented by the Mexico City government were a response to various citizen complaints alleging the illegal sale of alcohol on public streets, excessive noise, and disturbance of public order.

During these actions, which concluded without incident, personnel from various agencies conducted inspections of establishments to ensure they complied with civil protection regulations and provisions on the responsible sale of alcohol, in order to provide a safe and respectful environment for both residents and people passing through these areas.

It should be noted that five establishments were closed for violating the suspension seals, and five people were referred to the corresponding Public Prosecutor’s Office.

One of the key commitments of the Mayor, Clara Brugada Molina, is to ensure that all people who enjoy their right to recreation in these nightlife venues do so safely, in places that have the necessary permits.
