Just days before the start of the Easter holidays, General Alex Melgarejo Torres, Undersecretary of Public Security in Tamaulipas, stated that visitors can travel day and night on the state’s highways, announcing that they will strengthen 24-hour security.

“We guarantee that they can travel, and that will be the case. The secure stations themselves provide security, and they will also be reinforced so they can patrol 24 hours a day,” he asserted in response to a specific question about the conditions for traveling at night on Tamaulipas’ roads.

This, he noted, stems from the fact that security has calmed down in the state in recent days.

“Right now, the state has remained calm,” he reiterated.
Although the border area is experiencing increased insecurity following reports by groups that alleged extermination camps were found in Reynosa, he noted that security will be strengthened in the municipality of Tampico, in the southern region of Tamaulipas.

“Speaking of Holy Week, Tampico, the southern region, will be reinforced,” he specified.

“And as will be seen, all the areas with the highest tourist influx,” he added.

For her part, Tampico Mayor Mónica Villarreal revealed that between March 31 and April 1, at least 90 State Guard members, as well as 30 SSPE patrols, will arrive to reinforce security for Holy Week.

The state commander specified that all 4,100 State Guard members will participate in the Holy Week holiday operation.
