In a routine border check, Mexican National Guard members apprehended an American woman attempting to smuggle $300,000 in undeclared cash into the country.

Lucia C.T., 43, was stopped at the Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge while crossing from El Paso, Texas. During a search of her black Toyota Rav4, authorities discovered concealed stacks of $20 bills and smaller amounts of $100 and $5 bills, according to Mexican customs officials.

When questioned by authorities, Lucia allegedly provided inconsistent answers regarding the ownership of the seized funds. Unable to provide a satisfactory explanation, she was taken into custody on charges of failing to declare currency exceeding $10,000.

The case has been turned over to the Mexican Attorney General’s Office in Juarez for further investigation and prosecution. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the smuggling of large sums of money across international borders.

This is a developing story, and Border Report will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
