The Colima-Manzanillo Highway was reopened to vehicle traffic after a tractor-trailer caught fire near the business known as “El Perico Loro.” The State Civil Protection Unit reported that the efforts to control the incident were completed successfully.
Erick González, director of the agency, explained that upon arriving at the scene, operational personnel found the vehicle engulfed in flames and, unfortunately, the driver burned to death inside the vehicle.
Although no other vehicle involved was identified, González explained that, given the nature of the accident, “it is very likely a hit-and-run, because we didn’t find any other vehicles, but given the type of accident, it could have collided with another tractor-trailer.”
Once the fire was extinguished and the damaged vehicle removed, traffic was fully restored. However, authorities urged extreme caution, especially during this period of high mobility.
“Many people are going out for the weekend, so we ask you to respect traffic regulations, speed limits, wear your seatbelt, and check your vehicle’s mechanical condition,” emphasized the head of Civil Protection.
The director of the agency recommended that motorists remain alert to official warnings about possible road closures or emergencies, particularly during the holiday season, when travel and road risks increase.
