The Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office reported a shootout between investigative police officers and alleged drug dealers that occurred this Thursday inside the Riu Palace hotel in Costa Mujeres.
According to a statement from the state Prosecutor’s Office, officers carried out an undercover operation in which they dismantled a drug dealing gang.
The preliminary investigation determined that the alleged criminals were frequently arriving at the property located in the hotel zone of Quintana Roo to demand services, threaten staff, and sell drugs.
Upon arriving at the hotel in the pool bathing area, investigative police officers were attacked by two individuals carrying firearms.
During the shootout, one alleged criminal was killed while another was arrested.
Authorities also seized two firearms, one of which was exclusively used by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
Following these events, police officers launched a search operation to locate the other members of the criminal group.
