The Bravos de Juárez are planning the construction of a new stadium, in what appears to be an ambitious project. They are seeking to have half of the stadium built in Mexico and the other half in the United States, with the possibility of becoming the first binational Liga MX stadium.
The border team is one of the most recently established in Mexican soccer, rarely competing in the playoffs. However, they want to change this situation by investing heavily in their stadium, encouraging their fans to come and watch their games, leaving the Benito Juárez Olympic Stadium behind.
According to information from David Medrano, Bravos owner Alejandra de la Vega wants the team’s new home to be built on the border, with half in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, and the other half in El Paso, Texas. It’s important to mention that this is an idea the Juárez team has in mind, so nothing is official yet.
What is a reality, according to the same source, is the location where the new stadium would be built. The board has already selected the location. However, everything is currently on hold due to the issue of government permits, as the Bravos must obtain construction permits in both countries.
As for the financial side, it appears to be a resolved issue, so once they have the green light, they can start playing without any problems, although it is unknown how long that will take. For now, they will have to continue playing their games at the Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez, which they have occupied since its creation in 2015.
The project the Ciudad Juárez team has in mind would be innovative for Liga MX, as no team has a stadium of this size, not even in two states. Although it wouldn’t be the first in the world, as there are several properties located on the border between two teams, it seems possible, as there are no rules preventing it.
This situation would undoubtedly be striking for fans, who could enter the stadium in Mexico and be seated in the United States, something that could even happen on the field, with half and half in each country.
