Aircraft crashes off Baja California Sur coast; foreigners on board rescued

The Mexican Navy (SEMAR) reported the rescue of a pair of foreign tourists traveling on a Canadian-originated aircraft that crashed off the coast of Baja California Sur.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at sea near Cerralvo Island and was reported through C4. As initially reported, two people were on board.

To begin the search and rescue operation, the deployment of a King Air aircraft was ordered, followed by the immediate departure of a Defender-type vessel.

A recreational vessel sheltered the victims moments before naval personnel arrived at the area where they were located and proceeded to transfer them to the dock, where they were received by Naval Health personnel.

Both tourists were taken to the La Paz Naval Hospital for specialized medical care, where they were reported to be in good health, despite suffering from minor scrapes and injuries.

Finally, SEMAR emphasized that the number 612-122-6513 is available to the public to provide emergency assistance at sea, as well as the contact number: 800 627 4621.
