In Baja California Sur, drug dealing cases increased by 40.5% during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period the previous year. According to official figures from the local courts, 305 investigations were opened for this crime between January and March, compared to the 217 reported in the first three months of 2024.
Once again, Los Cabos tops the list of municipalities with the highest incidence, accounting for 75.7% of the complaints registered throughout the state, which has led to increased surveillance operations.
Captain Christopher Jordi López Monje, Director of Public Safety in the municipality, noted that local authorities conduct daily patrols and operations with other agencies, which has led to arrests for possession of drugs such as crystal meth, marijuana, and cocaine.
“We have had drug operations conducted for marijuana, crystal meth, or cocaine… These patrols are routine, daily patrols, and inter-institutional operations involving all authorities are conducted daily, both day and night. Approximately six or seven people have been arrested so far this year for possessing doses, and these are then handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Captain López Monje said.
López Monje added that these actions stem from local security committee meetings, where reports are reviewed and potential hot spots for this activity are identified, both in the tourist area and in various neighborhoods across the municipality. This has allowed for a reinforced police presence in critical areas, with the goal of curbing the growth of this crime.
