For a decade now, World Marijuana Day has been celebrated around the world on April 20th, so many people seeking legalization gather at various locations to assert their rights.

In light of these events, the Mexico City government announced that the sale of alcohol or cannabis in public spaces will not be permitted this Sunday to prevent any type of disorder.

Zero tolerance for marijuana sales on the street

César Cravioto, Mexico City’s Secretary of Government, said he met with organizers of cannabis movements to agree that any demonstrations held will be carried out in compliance with the law.

“The organizers and the government will ensure that there are no disturbances or violence at these events. We trust in the maturity of the organizers, in the maturity of this movement,” the official said.

In a video, the Mexico City Secretary of Government reiterated that the sale of alcohol, marijuana, and cannabis products on the streets will not be permitted.

“There will be no tolerance, I insist, for sales in public spaces; we are working to ensure that all these expressions are expressions that reflect freedoms but where the city’s rules are respected,” he stated.

When is the march for the liberation of marijuana?

Although World Marijuana Day is April 20, the Cannabis March will take place on May 3 to demand its legalization and not its demonization.

“Next Saturday, May 3, in different parts of the country and the world, many individuals, organizations, and collectives will take to the streets to march for free and universal access to cannabis and marijuana, demanding the right to self-cultivation, respect for all uses of the plant, and an end to the harassment of users,” the organizers stated.

In Mexico City, the meeting point will be at 2:00 PM at the Angel of Independence. The march will continue until 4:20 PM until reaching the Palace of Fine Arts.
