The Easter holiday season brought a surge of visitors to Campeche, with hotel occupancy surpassing 65% during the first week of vacation, according to Mauricio Arceo Piña, head of the State Tourism Secretariat (Sectur). The San Francisco Campeche Station of the Mayan Train also reported significant traffic, reflecting the influx of tourists.
Arceo Piña highlighted the proactive efforts of the private sector in enhancing the tourist experience, particularly through initiatives such as the “Campechaneada,” organized by the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) last weekend. “The business sector’s active participation in tourism initiatives is vital. We see a new generation of entrepreneurs uniting to create innovative experiences, ensuring visitors have an enjoyable stay and extend their time in Campeche,” he stated.
The Maya Train played a pivotal role in bringing tourists to the capital, a trend evident on Calle 59, where activity increased considerably since the beginning of the holiday season. The positive reception from both locals and tourists underscores the potential for sustaining high traffic beyond peak vacation periods.
Arceo Piña credited key sectors such as Mexicana de Aviación, Aeroméxico, and the Maya Train for contributing to the holiday season’s success, reinforcing Campeche’s position as a dynamic and growing tourist destination.
