In a joint operation between the Chiapas Secretariat of People’s Security (SSP) and the Armed Forces, state authorities reported the deaths of two alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), including Bryan “N,” alias “El Cachorro,” identified as the plaza boss in the Frailesca region and second-in-command of the criminal organization in the state.
The confrontation occurred on the afternoon of Monday, April 21, near the municipal cemetery and the “La Estrella Azul” hotel in the municipality of Villa Corzo, in southwestern Chiapas.
According to statements by Óscar Alberto Aparicio Avendaño, Chiapas Secretary of Security, the operation began after two individuals attacked members of the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force (FRIP) and the State Preventive Police with firearms. According to the official, the uniformed officers repelled the attack, triggering the armed confrontation in which the alleged attackers were killed.
“These individuals were collecting grounds and were found operating,” stated Aparicio Avendaño. “Today, two perpetrators of violence have been neutralized. We will continue working for the pacification of Chiapas,” he said.
The official added that the events are part of security and intelligence actions coordinated with the State Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard (GN), and other institutions that make up the state security team.
The Secretary of Security explained that the individual operated by extorting merchants and businesspeople in the area by collecting grounds, one of the main sources of financing for the criminal group in the region.
Videos circulated on social media purportedly showing the confrontation that occurred in Villa Corzo. Multiple gunshots can be heard in the recordings, reinforcing the version of events later confirmed by state authorities.
Along with “El Cachorro,” a man identified as his personal escort also died. Authorities seized a long-barreled weapon and two handguns, which were handed over to the appropriate authorities.
During the operation, three security personnel were injured: one from the Pakal Force and two from the State Preventive Police. According to the official report, the injured officers were taken to a hospital in the municipality of Villaflores, where they remain under medical care and are out of danger.
“Unfortunately, in these events, we have two injured colleagues, one from the FRIP and another from the State Preventive Police. Both are out of danger and are being treated,” Aparicio Avendaño explained.
Reinforced Patrols
Following the confrontation, security forces deployed patrols and surveillance operations in Villa Corzo and surrounding municipalities to prevent possible retaliation by criminal groups. According to the Secretary of Security, the area remains under constant monitoring by state and federal authorities.
The governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, confirmed the events through his social media accounts and assured that the state government will continue its efforts to combat organized crime in the state.
“I have been informed that an operation was carried out in Villa Corzo, with state security personnel and the Armed Forces, resulting in two individuals being neutralized and a handgun and a long weapon being seized. Peace and tranquility are built every day; we will not let our guard down,” the governor posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter).
The operation is part of the strategies implemented by the Chiapas Security Cabinet to contain the CJNG’s operations in the state, where the organization has been linked to crimes such as extortion, kidnapping, and drug trafficking in various regions.
