Thousands of people have reacted with collective action to an incident captured on video after a US citizen allegedly ordered a construction worker to move off the sidewalk while he was eating.

The incident occurred in front of a home on Cruz Lizárraga Avenue in Mazatlán and was documented on TikTok by user Mayri Franco. Within hours, the video had more than a million views and sparked a wave of criticism.

Since then, port residents and tourists have called for a peaceful protest in the form of a massive barbecue in front of the foreigner’s home through social media and WhatsApp groups.

The slogan among port residents is clear: “If they mess with one, they mess with all,” as has been repeated in numerous comments on social media.

The protest was set for Wednesday, April 23rd and Sunday, April 27th, both at 2:00 p.m., inviting attendees to bring a grill, meat, tortillas, and salsas.

Local businesses have also announced their support, including a well-known taqueria that offered to donate kilos of meat for the protest.

In addition to the food gathering, videos circulating on social media are showing motorcyclists and drivers passing by the home, honking their horns and revving their exhausts to create a loud noise.

Workers from the affected construction site have also joined in this symbolic demonstration, having breakfast next to the home before starting their workday.

On Wednesday morning, the arrival of employees from a loan company was also reported. They showed up in a group in front of the building, honking their horns and creating a loud noise with their exhausts.

So far, local authorities have not issued any statements regarding the events or possible actions in response to the growing citizen mobilization.
