The Michoacán government asserted that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) display in Huajúmbaro is a propaganda project, like those held in other states.

Here, it acknowledged, they have handed out toys and held festivals on important dates. Furthermore, the local government stated that criminals appear to be close to the people, but it is these armed individuals who murder, kidnap, and extort the population, it emphasized.

Therefore, it stated that people should reject these demonstrations, which are merely propaganda.

CJNG Parades in Michoacán on Holy Saturday

On Holy Saturday, two red vans carrying armed individuals toured the town. They circulated in the town, located in the eastern part of the state, to try to generate empathy among the people.

The violators identified themselves as members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. This criminal group maintains a recurring feud with other criminal organizations in various regions of the state. The confrontations have left their mark on their ranks, but there is no respite.

Morelia remains the city with the most intentional homicides in Michoacán month after month. The mayor of the state capital, Alfonso Martínez, has not been able to lower crime rates such as homicide.

On the subject of narcocorridos, Michoacán Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla stated that the glorification of crime has been banned in the state.

Similarly, Ramírez Bedolla added that Los Alegres del Barranco, who sing to drug traffickers, will not perform in Maravatío as they had announced.

The government has suspended the musical group from two concerts—in the municipalities of Lázaro Cárdenas and Hidalgo—along with other groups that glorify violence.

At a press conference, the governor of Michoacán declared that permits will not be granted to groups that sing about crime.

The polling firm Enkoll reported that 71 percent of Michoacán residents support banning narcocorridos from public events. The results also reveal that “tumbados” corridos are widely listened to in the state.
