What happened? Viva Aerobús passengers were taken off the plane in Puerto Vallarta; this was the reason

For many people, Easter vacation is still ongoing, and it’s no surprise that plans to visit a tourist destination in Mexico are still going ahead. However, for one couple, this period of rest didn’t end well, as they were removed from a Viva Aerobús flight by members of the National Guard. MILENIO tells you more.

A video, just a few seconds long, went viral on social media showing Viva Aerobús staff inviting two passengers to disembark the plane of their own volition because they had just violated the rules. If they didn’t, the officers would be asked to force them off, as they were in a federal zone.

What happened on Viva Aerobús?

Through the social media platform TikTok, a user identified as Ventura posted the incident on Sunday, April 20, explaining that the flight departing from Puerto Vallarta was delayed for at least an hour because the couple who were asked to leave the plane refused to do so.

“I’ve never experienced anything like this before,” he wrote.

Viva Aerobús staff emphasized over the PA system that the couple had already been classified as disruptive passengers, which is the term given to those who disturb order and discipline on board an aircraft or at the airport.

“If not, the ground crew has instructions to call the National Guard, and they will be able to take care of you, and the National Guard may file other charges,” the flight crew stated.

Why were the Viva Aerobús passengers deplaned?

A second video included an explanation of what had happened on the flight departing from Puerto Vallarta. It indicated that the couple had not only arrived late for boarding, but they were also carrying several suitcases, which they tried to place in the plane’s overhead compartments, unaware that they were already full. They then opted to remove other suitcases and place their own.

It was also mentioned that Viva Aerobús staff had already prevented them from boarding the plane because all the passengers were already in their seats. When the couple refused, they ended up pushing them and forcing their way onto the aircraft, which immediately caught the attention of staff throughout the company, who halted operations to remove them because they were now considered unruly passengers.

However, that wasn’t all, as the company’s clients had also purchased a ticket that prevented them from carrying luggage. This was the zero fare, which only allowed one personal item—a small bag or backpack—and if they carried more belongings, they had to pay an extra fee, which they also wouldn’t have done.

What did Viva Aerobús say about this?

The company in question has not yet made any reference to this event. They only issued a statement on their social media regarding the disruption to a flight that departed from Bogotá, Colombia, on April 21st. Prior to this, they clarified the situation with a flight from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, on the 19th of the same month.

Following the viralization of this video captured in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, the company has also remained silent and has only reminded all customers who had planned to travel to Guadalajara to enjoy the Katy Perry concert, which was canceled from April 30th to May 3rd, that customers affected by this incident can reach an agreement to change their destination.
