Recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography revealed — The state has consolidated its position as one of the main players in the national energy sector as a result of the implementation of the Sonora Plan, registering a 9.3% increase in the production and sale of electricity during December 2024, according to recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the state government announced.

In this regard, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño emphasized that this growth has been driven by a strategic vision focused on sustainable development, through the promotion of clean energy and the modernization of the state’s electrical infrastructure.

Our commitment to Mexico’s energy future is firm. Sonora has the potential, the location, and the leadership to spearhead the clean energy sector,” he stated.

We closed 2024 with a 9.3% increase in electricity generation, and today we are the fifth-largest entity in the country, according to INEGI.

Sonora currently ranks fifth in the nation in electricity generation from clean sources, behind only Guanajuato, Colima, Chiapas, and Querétaro, the Executive Branch stated.

This position, it states, reflects the impact of the Sonora Plan in promoting renewable technologies and strategic projects, such as solar and thermoelectric plants.

This progress has been achieved thanks to the collaboration between the state government, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), and the private sector, it said, with key investments that support energy self-sufficiency and reinforce Sonora’s role as a benchmark in environmental and technological matters.
