President Claudia Sheinbaum’s ambitious federal projects in Campeche are poised to revitalize the state’s economy and boost tourism, according to Héctor Cámara Mijangos, president of the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels of Campeche (AMHM). The mega initiatives include the Champotón Highway Bypass and infrastructure improvements at the ports of Seybaplaya and Ciudad del Carmen.

Cámara Mijangos believes that these projects will significantly enhance the tourism image of the affected municipalities, contributing to the state’s long-awaited economic growth. He also anticipates a surge in tourist activity following the inauguration of the Light Rail system by President Sheinbaum, which he predicts could lead to an increase in visitor numbers at the “San Francisco Campeche” Station on the Mayan Train.

“The President’s visit is crucial in raising awareness about the challenges faced by Champotón, Seybaplaya, and Ciudad del Carmen,” Cámara Mijangos explained. He emphasized that the attention paid to these regions is long overdue, citing the need for urgent support to revitalize the ports of Seybaplaya and Ciudad del Carmen.

The “Champotón Highway Bypass” project, in particular, has the potential to alleviate traffic congestion and transform Champotón’s tourist image. By easing traffic flow and streamlining transportation, the bypass could also improve road safety for residents.

Cámara Mijangos expressed concern about the state of Seybaplaya’s port, highlighting years of neglect and stagnation. “We’ve been waiting for development in Seyba for far too long, but so far, nothing has changed. Companies from other regions are not investing, and the image remains unattractive to tourism,” he said.

The lack of progress at the ports has hindered economic growth and development in the region, according to Cámara Mijangos. He believes that President Sheinbaum’s mega projects will finally bring much-needed investment and revitalization to Campeche’s tourism sector, paving the way for a brighter future for local businesses and residents alike.
