Several people, including tourists from Tijuana, who had come to have breakfast with their families in the rural area between Mazatlán and La Noria, reported that they were stuck in businesses due to the presence of armed civilians, roadblocks, and burning vehicles.
They report that while taking the highway to return to Mazatlán, they encountered an armed group blocking the road near Puerta de Canoas and forced them to turn back. They complied and took shelter in a restaurant, where they remain stuck, fearing for their safety.
They say that upon returning to one of the businesses, they joined more people who were already praying in one of the restaurants.
The events occurred around 11:00 a.m., and they remained sheltered as of 1:30 p.m.
They report that they have not seen any authorities present, so they are asking for help to return.
“When we were returning to Mazatlán, we encountered an armed group blocking the road. They had a trailer parked across the road near Puerta de Canoas, and they turned us back,” said one of the tourists.
Since yesterday, the presence of armed men has been reported on roads in Mazatlán towns, including roadblocks near El Habal, El Recodo, and El Roble, but so far, authorities have not released any information.
