Another burned-out vehicle and the body of a person inside have now been found in La Paz, Baja California Sur, a region where violence has been reported due to confrontations between criminal groups.
Authorities from the state Attorney General’s Office (PGJE) confirmed today that they are investigating this discovery reported in the Ampliación Mezquitito neighborhood of the capital.
Members of the State Criminal Investigation Agency and Forensic Services personnel verified that it was a double-cab pickup truck, which had been set on fire, and inside they found the charred, decomposing body of a person.
As a result of these events, an investigation has been opened, and personnel are deployed to locate further evidence. In addition, surveillance and security have been reinforced in neighborhoods in the south of the state and in tourist areas.
This incident adds to the violent events that have occurred in recent weeks in Baja California Sur, both in the north and south. Just on Monday, security authorities and military forces clashed in the municipality of Loreto, leaving three men dead and one more arrested.
The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, confirmed that members of the Navy were attacked with gunfire by three suspected criminals. The attack resulted in three deaths, and three long-range weapons and two handguns were seized.
He indicated that due to the recent arrests of a dozen suspected criminals, including Marcos Ivan “N,” alias “El Marquitos,” leader of a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel’s “Los Mayos,” security reinforcements in this state continue.
For his part, the Secretary of Government, Saúl González Núñez, reported that the northern zone was reinforced following the events. The security committee met in the municipality of Loreto, and actions were agreed upon jointly with municipal authorities led by Mayor Paz Ochoa Amador.
She assured that to guarantee the safety of citizens, residents, and tourists in Baja California Sur, they are working together with the federal government on operational and intelligence tasks, and deploying personnel to various communities.
It is worth mentioning that last Friday, authorities also confirmed the discovery of three burned vehicles in a mountainous area of the municipality of Mulegé, as well as the bodies of two men, one inside one of the vehicles and the other inside a cistern.
In the Loreto area, a seizure of live ammunition, tactical vests, ballistic plates, and tactical clothing was also recorded last week. The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) inspected the vehicle and seized it.
