The much-anticipated Nichupté Bridge project in Cancún has been making steady progress, with the latest update indicating that its inauguration is now scheduled for December 2025.

According to José Antoni Esteva, Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation, the initial projection for the bridge’s opening was August 2025. However, Esteva confirmed that the new opening date will be in December of this year.

The Nichupté Bridge project has been underway since the administration of former President López Obrador and is currently more than 50 percent complete. The investment in the project is expected to reach 8.586 billion pesos by 2025.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has been keeping residents of Cancún informed about the progress of the work, and her efforts have paid off as the project continues to make significant strides. Lezama highlighted the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development in various municipalities across the region, with a focus on this monumental construction project.

The Nichupté Bridge will connect downtown Cancún to the hotel zone, providing considerable benefits to the community of Chetumal and other surrounding areas. The investment in the project totals over 1.609 billion pesos, making it a significant undertaking for the state government.

Quintana Roo’s infrastructure projects have been receiving praise from leaders in the nautical sector, who credit Governor Lezama’s efforts with improving conditions despite days of port closure. The Nichupté Bridge is one of several key projects underway in the state, and its opening is expected to bring economic benefits and improved connectivity for residents and visitors alike.

With the new opening date set, attention will now focus on the final stages of completion and preparation for the bridge’s inauguration in December 2025.
