Once again, Sinaloa’s main tourist destination, Mazatlán, has seen 10,800 visitors attend the Copa Mazatlán, a children’s soccer tournament from April 30th to May 11th. This tournament brings together 250 teams that play on various fields and sports facilities in the port, generating an estimated 52 million pesos in revenue.
This year marks the 25th edition of the Copa Mazatlán, an event organized for more than 10 years by the Sinaloa-based company Massportmx. In addition to these soccer tournaments, the tournament also organizes children’s baseball and basketball tournaments, both in Sinaloa and in other states.
Its first and main event is the Mazatlán Soccer Cup, bringing thousands of children in categories ranging from six to 11 years old to the destination, accompanied by their coaches and families from various cities in Sinaloa, and from the states of Nuevo León, Durango, Sonora, Jalisco, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Coahuila, and Nayarit, and even from abroad, with teams from Anaheim, California, United States.
The matches are held on various fields throughout the city, the majority being on the fields of the Benito Juárez Sports Complex.
The 25th edition of the Mazatlán Cup was divided into two categories: the first was 7-a-side soccer, which took place from April 30th to May 4th, with the participation of 130 teams made up of 2,300 child players, who were accompanied by 4,000 parents, for a total of 6,300 attendees.
The other modality is 9-on-11 Soccer, currently underway. It began on Wednesday, May 7, and concludes on Sunday, May 11. 1,500 players participate on 120 teams. Three thousand parents also accompany their children, resulting in a total attendance of 10,800 people across the two tournaments, generating an economic impact of 52 million pesos.
This time, roadside tourists predominated, arriving by bus to witness this great event and enjoy Mazatlan’s beautiful beaches.
