President Claudia Sheinbaum announced this Friday morning that her government is suing Google for changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its maps in the United States following a decree issued by Donald Trump.

Google “is already being sued,” the president said during her regular “Mañanera del Pueblo” press conference, without specifying when or where the lawsuit was filed.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said this Thursday that her government could sue Google, part of the American group Alphabet, over the name change of the Gulf of Mexico on the maps the company displays on its platforms.

Sheinbaum Pardo indicated that “the only thing they are seeking is compliance with the decree issued by the United States government, but only in their territory and not for the entire Gulf.”

“That is what we are demanding be included on the platform. We will see how this resolution from the United States Congress is passed, but they can only name the part of the United States territory,” she stated from the National Palace.

The president ruled out any discussion of the topic in the call with her counterpart Donald Trump.

On January 20, the first day of his second term, Trump signed an executive order changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Sheinbaum responded ironically to Trump’s executive order by suggesting calling the United States “Mexican America,” based on maps from the 17th century, when much of the western US territory belonged to Mexico.

Trump’s decision was backed on Thursday by the US House of Representatives, which passed a bill to officially change the nomenclature.

From “Gulf of America” to “Mexican America,” the exchanges between Sheinbaum and Trump that marked the week
In addition to Google, another technology giant, Apple, changed the name on its maps for US users.

Sheinbaum had already sent two letters to Google questioning the California corporation’s decision and threatening to resort to legal action.
