An administrative employee of the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office assigned to Matamoros and her boyfriend were arrested in Brownsville, Texas, after being found with $184,000.
U.S. Homeland Security personnel intercepted a red Fiat in which the couple was traveling and searched the vehicle, finding the cash.
Angelica Rodríguez González was carrying $30,000 in her waistband, and Alejandro Alonso Saucedo García was carrying $5,485. The remainder was hidden in the dashboard and fenders of the vehicle.
The search of the young men was conducted after officers tracked a third person who had abandoned the vehicle at a gas station on 55th Kee Street, St. Louisville, in Brownsville, Texas.
After leaving the vehicle, Angelica and Alejandro arrived at the scene to retrieve the cash they were planning to smuggle into Matamoros, Tamaulipas.
Upon arriving at the Brownsville International Bridge, the young men assured federal agents they had nothing to declare, so they were asked for a second inspection.
It was then that cash totaling $184,085 was found on them, and they were detained for the corresponding investigation and charges.
It was reported that the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office began the process of terminating Angélica’s employment after she failed to show up for work.
