The Puebla government, headed by Alejandro Armenta, will build a new interchange on the Mexico-Puebla Highway, near the Volkswagen plant, with the goal of reducing traffic and improving mobility. This project will be possible thanks to a collaboration with Pinfra, the current concessionaire for the section, which will provide part of the funding for the project.
The new interchange will have four cloverleaf-shaped interchanges, allowing motorists to return without having to ascend to the second level of the highway, thus streamlining traffic flow. In addition, lane expansion in both directions is planned in the area of the Amozoc toll booth, one of the most problematic points due to its constant bottleneck.
Armenta harshly criticized the second level, calling it a “monument to corruption,” as during his time as a federal representative, he denounced the construction of excessively wide medians that reduced the number of lanes to force the use of the overpass.
“More than 100 million pesos of the people’s money were spent to build garrisons that were later demolished. That was the corrupt mentality of that time,” the governor stated.
In addition to the interchange, the governor indicated that the creation of a boulevard corridor in the north of the city is being analyzed to better connect with Tlaxcala, and he also mentioned the possible incorporation of a cable bus as a transportation alternative.
Thanks to the savings in public spending, the state government claims to have the financial capacity to carry out these infrastructure and sustainable mobility projects.
