Between January and August 2026, the Puebla State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) recorded 1,070 complaints for the crime of unlawful seizure of property.
The total is equivalent to an average of nearly four investigation files initiated by victims every day during the first eight months of the year.
The FGE indicated that the municipality with the highest number of complaints for unlawful seizure of property is the city of Puebla, with 346 between January and August 2026.
However, municipalities such as Amozoc, with 47 investigation files initiated, and Tehuacán, with 45, also stand out on the list.
They are followed by Atlixco with 31, Huauchinango with 28, San Andrés Cholula with 25, Cuautlancingo with 18, and San Pedro Cholula and Coronango with 17 each.
Other municipalities in Puebla that recorded cases of unlawful seizure of property between January and August 2026 are:
San Martín Texmelucan (15), Huejotzingo (14), Acajete (13), Izúcar de Matamoros (11), Acatzingo (10), and Chignahuapan (10). Among the municipalities that accumulated fewer than ten complaints are:
- Zacatlán: nine.
- Tepatlaxco de Hidalgo: six.
- Ocoyucan: five.
- Juan C. Bonilla: five.
- Chiautzingo: four.
- San Salvador el Verde: four.
- San José Chiapa: four.
- Calpan: three.
- Domingo Arenas: two.
- San Felipe Teotlalcingo: two.
- San Gregorio Atzompa: one.
- Xoxtla: one.
- Tlaltenango: one.
Complaints for unlawful seizure of property in Puebla are increasing
Complaints for the crime of unlawful seizure of property in the state of Puebla increased by 21.42 percent between 2024 and 2025.
Information shared by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) specifies that there were 1,265 investigation files in 2024.
Just one year later, in 2025, the number increased to 1,536, and the upward trend continued during 2026.
The FGE indicated that between January and August of last year (2025), there were 1,033 complaints for unlawful seizure of property throughout the state of Puebla.
Now, during the same period in 2026, the number is 1,070, meaning there was an increase of up to 37 complaints.
It is important to mention that the crime of unlawful seizure of property occurs when a person takes possession of, uses, or occupies someone else’s real estate without permission through violence, deception, threats, or secretly.
In June 2025, the Puebla Attorney General’s Office reported the arrest of Antonio N., a man accused of committing this offense in 2019.
The institution explained that he and another person identified as his legal adviser allegedly entered a property on 11 Sur in the Popular Coatepec neighborhood violently, along with another 130 people.
Armed with pipes, machetes, shovels, picks, and a Taser, they assaulted the residents and set up tents and vehicles inside the property to prevent access to it.
