The Mexico City Environment Secretariat (CDMX) invited visitors to enjoy a special evening and reconnect with nature at the Night Picnic, which will take place this Saturday, May 17.

The event will feature live music and will be held at the Yautlica Environmental Culture Center, located in the Iztapalapa borough.

“Experience a magical evening at the Yautlica Environmental Culture Center! Come with your family, friends, or partner and enjoy a picnic surrounded by nature, culture, and good vibes,” the spokesperson wrote on their X account.

The picnic will begin with a welcome for visitors at 6:30 p.m. and will run from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., during which time visitors can purchase products from the Mexico City Conservation Area and observe grasslands and shrubland.

How to get there?

To get there, the agency suggested using public transportation. From the Santa Martha station on Metro Line A, exit toward the Mexico-Texcoco federal highway.

On the left, you can board a bus on Route 53 heading to Potrero Herrería. Get off at the stop that marks the entrance to the Yautlica Environmental Education Center.

Those wishing to attend should be aware that this is a Protected Natural Area, so it is necessary to follow a series of instructions:

  • Smoking is prohibited.
  • Bringing alcoholic beverages is prohibited.
  • Making fires, nailing objects to trees, or hanging objects from trees is prohibited.
  • Using polluting materials such as balloons, confetti, glitter, or foam is prohibited.
  • Avoid using single-use plastics or Styrofoam; therefore, it is recommended to bring reusable containers, thermoses, or water bottles.

“Remember to bring: a blanket, comfortable clothes, a thermos, and a desire to have a good time. And very important! Avoid generating waste,” she added in her post.

If you can’t attend, residents of the capital will have the opportunity to attend the next edition of the Night Picnic, which will be on Saturday, May 24, in Acuexcomatl.

This is the Yautlica Environmental Culture Center

Yautlica, whose name in Nahuatl means “place of the black warrior,” offers its visitors an extensive park with protected natural habitats.

It also hosts workshops and presentations, with the aim of training visitors and students to become true advocates in the fight for environmental preservation.

The center also offers visitors the opportunity to tour extensive pollination gardens, specially designed to benefit bees.
