During a joint operation carried out by members of the National Guard and the Mexican Army in the municipality of Teloloapan, Guerrero, Miguel Ángel Reyna Román, alias “El Orejón,” was captured. He was identified as the second-in-command of the New Michoacan Family (LNFM) operations in the state.

The arrest by Mexican authorities took place on May 15 in the San Andrés neighborhood at around 2:50 p.m. He was subsequently transferred to the offices of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in Guerrero.

According to the National Arrest Registry, “El Orejón” is described as a man with dark skin, a thin build, tattoos on his arms, short hair, and wearing a green T-shirt with jeans.

At the time of his arrest, Reyna Román was carrying three handguns, four magazines, 52 rounds of ammunition, and was driving a vehicle reported stolen. Along with him, three other individuals allegedly linked to the Familia Michoacana were captured.

Who collaborated with “El Orejón” within the Familia Michoacana?

Investigations indicate that Miguel Ángel Reyna Román operated under the orders of Luis Vicente Calderón Jaimes, alias “Güicho Cachetes,” a plaza boss, and David Durán Álvarez, alias “El Chuck Norris,” considered the regional leader of the LNFM in Guerrero.

“El Orejón” was linked to various high-impact crimes, including homicides, forced disappearances, extortion, and threats against residents of Teloloapan, Guerrero. His arrest represents a significant blow to the LNFM’s operational structure in the region.

The criminal organization is led by brothers Johnny and José Alfredo Hurtado Olascoaga, aliases “El Pez” and “El Fresa.” It is considered one of the most powerful gangs in Mexico, with activities that include drug trafficking, extortion, and illegal mining.

Last month, the United States Department of the Treasury offered a reward of up to four million dollars for each of the leading brothers of the Familia Michoacana, for a total of eight million dollars for anyone providing information leading to their capture.

What territories does the Familia Michoacana control in Mexico?

The Familia Michoacana concentrates its main criminal operations in states such as Michoacán, Guerrero, and various municipalities in the southern part of the State of Mexico. However, its presence has recently been reported in states such as Puebla and in some areas of Mexico City.

Although its origins are in Michoacán, the criminal group’s presence in this state has diminished due to its armed confrontation with members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
