A disturbing video has been circulating online showing a foreign national hurling acid at two dogs inside a property in Cuilápam de Guerrero, Oaxaca, leaving the animals with severe burns.

According to eyewitnesses and medical reports, Jeremie Bessiere, identified as the attacker, allegedly threw an acid bomb at the dogs around 4:40 am on May 18. The footage, shared by the owners of the attacked animals, Carlos Felipe Chan, shows the suspect spraying a corrosive substance before fleeing the scene.

The two dogs, Nena and Nina, suffered severe burns to their heads and bodies, with one animal potentially losing vision in one eye due to its injuries. The animals are currently undergoing specialized veterinary treatment.

Following the incident, the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into the crime of animal cruelty. Authorities confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Bessiere, who is described as being of French nationality.

Under Oaxaca’s Penal Code, amended in 2024, animal abuse is considered a serious offense, punishable by one to five years in prison and fines ranging from 100 to 1,000 UMAs. In cases involving corrosive substances that put an animal’s life at risk, the penalty can reach up to eight years in prison and a fine of 1,500 UMAs.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among local residents and animal rights groups, with many calling for Bessiere’s immediate arrest and exemplary punishment. Some neighbors have also suggested that the attacker may be suffering from mental health issues, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Animal welfare organizations in Oaxaca, such as the Oaxaca Animalist Front, have offered support to the attacked animals’ owners and urged authorities to take urgent action to prevent impunity in cases of animal abuse. The prosecutor’s office is continuing its investigation into the incident, but no further updates have been issued.

The public has been encouraged to share any information regarding Bessiere’s whereabouts with local law enforcement.
