Dozens of motorcyclists demonstrated at the Puebla State Congress headquarters, where a law is being proposed to require motorcyclists to display their license plate numbers on their helmets and jackets.
The protesters noted that such reforms have been attempted in other countries and states, where they have been shown to violate human rights and be discriminatory.
The official argument is that since many crimes are committed by people riding motorcycles, all motorcyclists must wear decals on their helmets and reflective vests.
The protesters lamented the attempt to label everyone and demanded that legislators listen to them and that authorities begin working to improve road infrastructure.
The protesters believed that authorities should pay attention to motorists traveling at high speeds or using cell phones, which is one of the main causes of accidents.
It was the leader of Congress, Morena member Laura Artemisa García, who will present a reform initiative to the Mobility and Road Safety Law in the upcoming elections.
Some measures include the mandatory use of helmets with a visible license plate sticker.
As well as the use of a vest or jacket with reflective material that displays the license plate number on both the front and back.
These provisions have been attempted in other states, where they have been overturned through legal appeals because they are considered discriminatory and violate human rights.
