Frustrated residents of the Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez neighborhood in Campeche have taken to the streets to protest the Federal Electricity Commission’s (CFE) failure to address a 15-day power outage that has left their homes without electricity.
Ligia and Rosario, two local residents, led a group of demonstrators who blocked traffic on major streets between Abelardo Carrillo and Cinco streets. They claimed that despite paying their electricity bills on time and often with overcharged rates, the CFE had failed to provide adequate service for over two weeks.
“The CFE has promised us solutions, but it’s been days since we’ve heard anything concrete,” the protesters said. “They keep telling us they’ll fix the problem in an hour or two hours, but nothing happens.”
The residents, fed up with the lack of progress, decided to take matters into their own hands by blocking streets and chanting slogans like “We want electricity, we want electricity!” They also warned motorists and motorcyclists that there was no alternative route through the area.
The protesters highlighted the impact of the power outage on their daily lives, citing damaged electrical appliances and spoiled food. They emphasized that this was not just a minor inconvenience but a serious financial burden for many families.
“No one is taking responsibility for these problems,” said one resident. “We’re having to buy new household items and food again, which is money we can’t afford to lose.”
The situation has reached a boiling point, with residents calling on the CFE and government authorities to take immediate action to resolve the issue. Until then, they will continue to protest in the streets, demanding a solution to their electricity woes.
