With tanks and buckets filled to prevent disruptions to their businesses or homes, more areas of the municipality have joined the list of residential neighborhoods facing issues with regular water access—whether due to rationing, low pressure, or going days without service.

Added to the more than 25 neighborhoods visited yesterday by Por Esto!—all of which were suffering from water shortages—were Solidaridad Urbana, Revolución, San Julián, Dos Piedras, Sascalum, Ampliación Cuatro Caminos, Tacubaya, Altavista, Villa Real and its extensions; Tepeyac, Montecristo, Ex Hacienda Kalá, Sinaí, Lerma, Ciudad Concordia, La Ermita, and Chiná.

Residents Catalina, Román, Cristel, and Rebeca explained that, so far, no one has provided any information regarding what is happening—not even via Facebook, a social media platform that authorities should utilize more frequently to announce service suspensions or maintenance work.

They noted that their children’s education would suffer as a result, and that catching up on their studies would be a difficult task.

Mr. Román, a mason by trade, added that nothing of this magnitude had occurred in many—indeed, many—years—about seven, to be precise. This situation even came as a surprise to him and his wife, as they have been forced to spend over 4,000 pesos to purchase two water storage tanks.

In neighborhoods such as Miguel Hidalgo, Solidaridad Urbana, and Las Flores, the most striking images were those of residents filling their tanks in an effort to avoid future complications.

As for the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage System of Campeche (SMAPAC), 344 water leaks have been reported throughout the municipality so far this May. The total figure accounts for 179 leaks occurring between the 4th and the 10th, and 164 between the 11th and the 17th of this fifth month of 2026.

Despite this, there is still no official stance regarding the public complaints, as authorities have only disclosed to the press the pipe replacement operations carried out in neighborhoods such as Revolución, the lower zone of San Julián, Dos Piedras, and La Esperanza.

Furthermore, they announced that on May 22nd, in the downtown area of San Francisco de Campeche, they will carry out leak repair work at three different locations—operations that could disrupt the tranquility of the commercial district.

The specific sites scheduled for intervention—involving water leak repairs and the replacement of hydraulic concrete—are located at the intersection of 55th Street and 14th Street; 10th Street (unnumbered) between 61st and 59th Streets; and 49th Street at Circuito Baluartes, between 12th and 14th Streets.
