Victorino writer José Roberto López Martínez was recognized with the 2025 Gilberto Owen National Literature Prize in the Poetry category for his work “Nociones de la luz” (Notions of Light), under the pseudonym “Abaponi.” This award is granted by the Sinaloa Institute of Culture and will be presented next Wednesday, June 11, in Culiacán, at an official ceremony. The Tamaulipas Institute for Culture and the Arts (ITCA), of the Tamaulipas State Government, congratulates the award-winning writer.
“Roberto López is a talented writer from Tamaulipas, who has also excelled in cultural management. It is a pleasure to confirm that Tamaulipas creators are using the platforms at their disposal to promote their work with important events such as this award,” said Héctor Romemo-Lecanda, general director of ITCA.
The jury, comprised of the distinguished voices of Mikeas Sánchez, Eduardo Saravia, and Sara Uribe, unanimously selected López Martínez’s work, “for condensing a poetic exploration of light into rhythmic flashes and creating atmospheres and landscapes that propose a deciphering of meaning as a shared task. Furthermore, the work offers a profound reflection on the body, fear, and vulnerability after a breakup.”
The Tamaulipas native’s work was chosen from among 104 entries in the competition, for which he will receive a financial incentive of 125,000 pesos.
