The Water Advisory Council warned that the metropolitan area of the state of Querétaro is experiencing a critical water situation and announced the start of a technical study with specialists to accurately measure the current state of the resource.

“In the Metropolitan Area, I don’t want to get ahead of myself until I have the precise technical information, but it’s true that the situation is critical. That’s why we’ve had very clear alarms and alerts in the state, given the current situation,” said Council President Katia Reséndiz Jaime.

She explained that Querétaro is a state with unique conditions, being a semi-arid region, in addition to the ongoing demographic and industrial growth. She also indicated that global climate change is affecting the water situation.

Financing proposal for “Batán, Water for All” is being prepared

Gustavo Leal, Secretary of Finance, said that several proposals were analyzed, including a loan.
“We must be clear that Querétaro is a semi-arid state; we must differentiate between scarcity and drought. Scarcity is due to lack of care; we lack a water culture; and drought, which is the lack of rain, is caused by climate change. Querétaro is not immune to these phenomena, and we must be aware of them.”

He also noted that the water plan and studies that provide an overview of the state’s water resources will be presented in four months. This will allow for better analysis for the implementation of public policies that support water resources in the short, medium, and long term.

This was during the Water Forum, held this Monday, May 26, in the municipality of Huimilpan, where the mayor, Jairo Morales, and the president of Coparmex Querétaro, Beatriz Hernández Rojas, were present.

During his speech, Hernández Rojas recognized the work of the Querétaro State Water Advisory Council for integrating a plural, inclusive, and technical vision that promotes the participation of stakeholders committed to the state’s development.

Querétaro prepares a sustainable global water plan

The CEA executive member made the presentation to Governor Mauricio Kuri, who is on a tour of the Sierra Gorda region of Querétaro.
“At Coparmex Querétaro, we reiterate our commitment to a responsible agenda that connects the productive sector with real and sustainable solutions, aligned with the water context we live in,” he said.
