Britney Spears is once again at the center of controversy following an incident that occurred during a private flight from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to Los Angeles, United States.

According to TMZ, the 43-year-old singer lit a cigarette and consumed alcohol on board, actions that violate federal aviation regulations.

This behavior led to authorities issuing her a warning upon landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

According to the report, flight attendants reacted quickly when they noticed Spears had lit a cigarette. Although they asked her to put it out, and she complied, the incident had already been reported to authorities.

Upon landing, police were waiting for the singer to issue a formal warning. According to sources cited by People, after receiving the warning, Spears was released without further legal consequences.

A source close to the case told the outlet that this would not be the first episode in which the artist has displayed a defiant attitude toward the rules. “This isn’t the first warning she’s received. She’s not exactly someone who follows the rules,” the source said, without offering further details about previous incidents.

JSX Airlines, which operated the private flight, declined to comment. Spears’s representative did not respond to media requests for comment.

Following the uproar, Spears used her Instagram account to address the incident. In a video posted from the plane, she is seen toasting the camera while writing in the caption: “Me yesterday!!!” In a seemingly nonchalant tone, the singer stated that she initially believed the officers waiting for her upon landing were there to support her.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I feel special!’” she expressed in the post. Regarding the cigarette, Spears justified her action by citing previous experiences: “Some planes I’ve been on allow smoking.”

“Some planes I’ve been on don’t allow smoking, but this one was different because the cup holders were on the outside of the seat.”

The incident adds to a series of recent episodes that have kept the “Toxic” singer under public scrutiny. Since the end of her conservatorship in 2021, Spears has been in the media spotlight for her behavior and social media posts, which has generated divided opinions among her fans and critics.
