A serious accident occurred tonight on the Mexico-Querétaro Highway at kilometer 53, near Coyotepec, State of Mexico.
At least three private vehicles and a trailer were involved in the accident, which detached the dry van it was towing.
So far, one person has died and several are injured. They are being treated by emergency personnel. One person was taken to the hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
Vehicles skid due to diesel fuel
The multiple accident occurred on the northbound-southbound route of the Mexico-Querétaro Highway when several vehicles skidded.
The operator of the dry van trailer lost control, while the driver of a compact car spun several times, colliding with a motorcyclist who fell to the pavement.
Minutes before the accident, a highway user had reported the presence of diesel spilled on the highway’s asphalt. This afternoon’s rainwater made the road more slippery, causing some vehicles to skid.
Later, the accident involving a trailer, three vehicles, and a motorcyclist was reported at the scene.
One person is reported in serious condition.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, where paramedics certified the death of a motorcyclist. Another man, also on the road, was rushed to a hospital in serious condition.
Other people were treated at the scene, while traffic was completely closed in the Mexico City direction.
Firefighters in the area are placing dirt on the road to prevent further accidents at the scene. Traffic remains closed

Meanwhile, the Federal Highway Department reported that another accident occurred at kilometer 82 near Jorobas on the Mexico-Querétaro highway.
At this point, a trailer with a dry van went off the road, apparently due to the rain and wet pavement.
No casualties or injuries have been reported at this point.
National Guard personnel from the Highway Division are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution due to the rain that occurred this afternoon and evening in the area.
