The Bahías de Huatulco Municipal Civil Protection Unit reported the closure of several beaches in the tourist destination due to adverse weather conditions.

In addition, it was noted that the measure is part of the preventive beach closure protocol due to increased swells, caused by the remnants of a low-pressure zone circulating in the Pacific Ocean.

Public urged to follow PA instructions

The municipal agency indicated that, for the time being, Santa Cruz, La Entrega, and El Maguey beaches remain open only for controlled access, with no authorization to swim or walk along the shore.

In this regard, the public and visitors were urged to follow the instructions of Civil Protection personnel and lifeguards to avoid any risky situations.

Meanwhile, the Harbor Master’s Office ordered the closure of navigation, activating constant monitoring in the bays and issuing alerts on VHF channel 16, which are intended to ensure the safe return of vessels to the port.

Strong wind gusts have caused trees to fall in some parts of Huatulco, with no injuries reported so far.

Conagua warns of possible tropical cyclone formation

Through social media, the National Meteorological Service (SMN) alerted the public about the possible formation of a tropical cyclone in the Pacific region, which has increased to 100 percent probability.

The announcement, made on the official X account of the National Water Commission (Conagua), stated that between the night of May 27 and Wednesday, May 28, the low-pressure area is expected to evolve into Tropical Storm Alvin.

“During this night or Wednesday, the #LowPressure area with cyclonic potential south of #Guerrero will evolve into a #TropicalDepression or #TropicalStorm #Alvin. Stay informed with us about the evolution of this system and take your precautions,” it reads.
