Convention tourism continues to inject dynamism into the local economy. May closes with a flourish with the International Mango Symposium, while June kicks off with the National Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous, events that will attract thousands of visitors and specialists from across the country and abroad.
This was announced by Alejandro Higuera Osuna, Undersecretary of the Meetings Industry at Sectur (Sectur), who emphasized that these gatherings not only represent steady hotel occupancy but also a significant economic benefit for the port during the off-season.
“For the first time, Mexico is hosting the International Mango Symposium. It is organized by the University of Chapingo, and producing countries such as India, Mexico, the Philippines, and nations from Africa and South America will participate,” he stated.
The symposium will be held from May 28 to June 1 at the Convention Center, with the presence of researchers, academics, producers, and federal officials linked to the agricultural and health sectors.
But the activity continues. Higuera Osuna added that at the beginning of June, Mazatlán will welcome more than 20,000 attendees from across the country during the National Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous, an event that will be held at the Teodoro Mariscal Stadium and the convention center itself.
“Then there’s also an international medical event on internal medicine, with the participation of 1,600 specialists. June is very active,” he added.
The state official emphasized that these types of events consolidate Mazatlán as one of the strongest destinations in the country within the meeting tourism segment, which is key to maintaining constant economic activity beyond the holiday seasons.
