During the council session held last Tuesday, May 27, in the “11 de Diciembre” hall in the municipal precinct of Valle de Banderas, Bahía de Banderas, the reappearance of former mayor Mirtha Villalvazo drew considerable attention… although not in person, but through an official portrait hanging in the gallery of former mayors of the municipality.
The painting was placed almost 15 months after Villalvazo, still considered a fugitive from justice by the Nayarit Attorney General’s Office, left office after unsuccessfully seeking reelection. Since then, she has not publicly returned to local political life.
Portraits of mayors in Bahía de Banderas
In the image, the woman also known as “Valiant Woman” appears smiling, placed between the portraits of former interim mayors José Isabel Aguirre Aguirre (10th City Council) and Lía Castro Díaz de León (11th City Council).
The photographs of the portrait quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread speculation, especially political speculation. Some interpreted it as a sign of a possible return, while others recalled the accusations against him.
It should be noted that, to date, the judicial authorities have not reported any progress on the proceedings in which he is accused of alleged embezzlement of public funds, improper performance of functions, influence peddling, illegal subdivision of properties, and illicit enrichment.
