Morena and the Green Party, which formed an alliance for the local elections in Veracruz, are poised to win the elections… albeit with losses, as they would have fewer municipalities than in 2021, according to the Preliminary Electoral Results Program (PREP).
With 99.9 percent of the votes counted, Morena and the Green Party would govern around 39.81 percent of Veracruz’s municipalities, while the remaining 60.19 percent would be governed by opposition parties, including the Labor Party (PT), which did not form an alliance with the 4T.
Veracruz is made up of 212 municipalities; however, there is one for which a preliminary result could not be computed.
Of the total municipalities that Morena is expected to govern after the Veracruz elections, 60 will be governed in coalition with the Green Ecologist Party, with whom it competed in a partial alliance. It will govern alone in 11, while the Green Party will govern solely in 13 more.
After the polls closed, Morena was quick to indicate that it won in 140 of the 212 municipalities, but the PREP (Presidential and Urban Planning) does not show that result.
In comparison, in the 2021 Veracruz municipal elections, the Morena-PT-Green alliance won 69 mayoralties, while separately, Morena won in 18 municipalities; the PT in another 18; and the Green Party in 10.
Four years ago, the PRI won 22 mayoralties; the PAN, 13; the defunct PRD, 5; and the Citizens’ Movement, 18, while the remaining municipalities were divided among other parties.
However, several mayors switched loyalties to the Morena party, so there are now 81 mayoralties divided among the other parties as follows: PRI (22); PVEM (17); MC (15); PAN (12); PRD (8); PT (6).
How did the local elections in Veracruz turn out? These were the votes with almost 99% of the votes cast.
With 99.9 percent of the votes counted, this is the preliminary percentage of votes obtained by each of the parties during the elections in Veracruz:
Morena and the Green Party: 956,859 votes, equivalent to 31.99 percent of the votes, governing 60 municipalities.
Citizens’ Movement: 572,995 votes, equivalent to 19.16 percent of the votes, governing 41 municipalities.
PAN: 405,306 votes, equivalent to 13.55 percent of the vote, governing 34 municipalities.
PT: 374,320 votes, equivalent to 12.51 percent of the vote, governing 28 municipalities.
PRI: 332,258 votes, equivalent to 11.11 percent of the vote, governing 23 municipalities.
Morena: 113,754 votes, equivalent to 3.80 percent of the vote, governing 11 municipalities.
Green Party: 109,415 votes, equivalent to 3.65 percent of the vote, governing 13 municipalities.
Independent Candidates: 25,926 votes, equivalent to 0.8712 percent of the vote, governing one municipality.
Of the total of 6,118,064 people on the nominal voter list, voter turnout was 49.91 percent.
Furthermore, in Boca del Río, although the statistics show the PAN winning, they do so by about one percentage point. There, a historically PAN-backed municipality, Morena declared itself the winner, although the National Action Party also declared its victory and announced that it would defend the vote.
