At least five state police officers were burned to death after an armed group ambushed them in the town of Las Champas, in the municipality of Frontera Comalapa, Chiapas.

The incident occurred shortly after noon on Monday, June 2. Governor Eduardo Ramírez later received the report and confirmed the events in a public ceremony.

The names of the officers killed and burned are:

Guillermo Cortes Morales.
Jesús Sanchez Pérez.
Joel Martinez Pérez.
Brenda Lizbeth Toalla Blanco.
Pedro Hernández Hernández.

There is no fear of enforcing the law: Eduardo Ramírez responds

Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar publicly condemned the attack against State Police officers in Frontera Comalapa. He emphasized that “there will be a response to these events and that the law will be enforced.”

On his social media, he stated that “on the road leading to the Sabinalito ejido, Comalapa border, state police officers were attacked and ambushed.”

“In light of these events, I assure you that there will be a clear and forceful response with the unrestricted enforcement of the law. Later, the Security Cabinet will provide more information and details on the situation. There is no room for fear here!” the president said.

To be precise, the ambush occurred in Las Champas, Chiapas, near the landfill, between 200 and 300 meters from the border. On the other side is the town of La Mesilla, Guatemala, where the criminals allegedly fled after carrying out the ambush.

The Secretary of Public Security stated in a letter that “As a result of an ambush by an organized crime group, members of the State Preventive Police (PEP) were ambushed and attacked in Sabinalito de Frontera, Comalapa. Therefore, more than a thousand members of the Secretary of Public Security are responding to the scene to address the situation and ensure security in the area.”

The Secretary of Public Security reiterated its commitment to peace and security in Chiapas and assured that it will not allow organized crime to disrupt the peace of its citizens.

It stated that it will maintain a strong and determined presence in the region to protect the population.

The State Attorney General’s Office reported that it has already begun investigations into the attack on members of the Secretary of Public Security in the Sabinalito de Frontera Comalapa community.

The State Attorney General, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, ordered the deployment of specialized personnel to the area to clarify the events.
