In Durango, federal authorities located a drug lab equipped to manufacture synthetic drugs, which also had a clandestine aircraft runway.
The discovery was made in the town of Carricitios, located in the municipality of Tamazula, where members of the Ministry of National Defense (Defense) were conducting intelligence and investigation work.
At the site, 150 kilos of methamphetamine, 5,310 liters of methamphetamine, and 870 kilos of chemicals used to manufacture the drugs were seized. However, no one was arrested.
During these operations, authorities also seized two organic synthesis reactors, 59 drums with various substances, nine vats, four bags of peroxide, 10 LP gas tanks, distillers, an electric generator, two mixers, and 34 bags with a crystalline substance (which was not specified).
Federal forces also discovered a 450-meter-long clandestine runway at the same site. It was presumed to have been used to transport drugs by aircraft, and was therefore also dismantled.
According to estimates by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the seizure of the drug lab prevented the production of 2.8 tons of methamphetamine, which in turn represented an economic blow to organized crime of 966 million pesos.
Therefore, these actions were highlighted by the head of the SSPC, Omar García Harfuch, who emphasized the multi-million-dollar economic impact the seizure represented.
In addition to the Defense Ministry, members of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard (GN), and the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) also participated.
While these actions were led by the FGE, through the AIC, the Semar has carried out various drug seizures during maritime operations throughout Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration.
From October 2024 to early June, naval personnel seized approximately 40 tons of cocaine along maritime coasts. This is equivalent to three million doses and an economic impact of 362,812,500 pesos.
One of the most recent operations took place off the coast of the state of Jalisco on May 29. On that occasion, the Semar intercepted 1.5 tons of cocaine distributed in 38 packages, each containing 1,500 drug packages. However, as happened in Durango, no one was arrested during that seizure.
