A risky situation forced the team at the MVZ Onésimo Fernández Veterinary Hospital and Clinic to close its facilities early on the night of Sunday, June 8, despite the regular schedule indicating they were still open. The clinic announced this on its official Facebook page, where it also announced that it was back to normal operations this Monday.

According to the statement, the closure was due to threats and acts of intimidation directed at the staff, a situation that endangered the safety of those working. “We regret to inform you that last night our team had to close the veterinary clinic early due to threats and acts of intimidation directed at our staff. (…) Fortunately, all the doctors on duty, including Dr. Onésimo, are well.”

The staff at the establishment, located at 418 Zaragoza Street North, apologized to their clients for not being able to continue providing care and expressed regret that some witnessed the incident. Despite the difficult situation, the clinic reaffirmed its commitment to animal health and announced that it had resumed normal operations starting at noon today, Monday.

The team also used the statement to send a message about the importance of respect and empathy toward the veterinary staff. “As animal health professionals, we firmly believe that respect, empathy, and mutual support among colleagues must prevail. Veterinarians are not gods: we do what is in our hands, with dedication, knowledge, and love for our patients.”

They also emphasized that caring for animals in critical condition is an enormous challenge, and therefore asked for greater understanding and humanity from the community.

The situation generated immediate reactions on social media, where several users expressed solidarity with the veterinary staff. “I had to be there in line and I chose to leave because the situation became tense. I’m glad everyone is okay,” commented one user. Another message, signed by a fellow veterinarian, stated: “As a veterinarian, I stand in solidarity with you and I hope this situation does not go unpunished.”

Likewise, the community’s support was evident: “Doc, we support you. Some people are so ignorant and at the same time so irresponsible with their animals. They want miracles when they’re in really bad shape. We gladly support them.”
