As Carlos Lara, PhD in Cultural Law, rightly pointed out: the destruction of the City of Arts in Tepic, the lack of a clear plan for what will happen to the Higher Schools of Dance and Music located there, the only survivors, and the crazy plan to cut down and relocate 200 trees are actions contrary to the official Morena discourse on culture. For those who saw diligence on the part of Secretary Claudia Curiel in addressing the INBAL art schools, which are facing truly terrifying scenarios, it remains to be said that, it seems, responses at the federal and state levels are only forthcoming until a critical situation is exposed. What will happen now, given this blow to culture in Tepic? And all in the name of the construction of a soccer stadium announced by Morena’s governor, Miguel Ángel Navarro. The City of the Arts was a young project (it was launched a decade ago), and the scenario it experienced was, more or less, similar to many cultural venues in Mexico: with needs and shortcomings, except that this one was distinguished by the sudden announcement by the Tepic authorities: the destruction of the project and the full-throttle start of construction on another project opposed to cultural promotion. At press time, the Dance and Music schools are still standing, and an advocacy group is keeping watch and protecting them, aware that they will be demolished at any moment. Thus, the second floor of the 4T (Tourism and Development) defends culture.
