A dramatic police operation was carried out in northern Mérida on Tuesday afternoon, as authorities intervened to transfer a prominent businessman from his daughter’s apartment to his own residence.
The operation involved agents from the State Attorney General’s Office and the State Investigation Police, who were executing a court order issued by a supervisory judge. The deployment of patrol cars drew the attention of local residents and motorists in the Campestre neighborhood.
Armando Palma Peniche, a well-known construction entrepreneur, had been living in an apartment in the Country Towers owned by his daughter, Hevenly Palma Vargas, for the past year. According to sources close to the family, Palma Peniche is in good health.
The dispute that led to the police intervention centers on a disputed will and allegations of tampering with family business transactions. Armando Palma Vargas, the businessman’s son, has filed complaints against his sister and other family members, accusing them of arbitrary actions and attempting to destroy the family business trust.
“We took our father out of their home today, where he had been held against his will,” said Armando Palma Vargas in an interview with Diario. “We have been trying to bring this case to light for over a year, but it has not been easy.”
The State Investigation Police (PEI) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) confirmed that they participated in the operation as part of an ongoing investigation. They urge the public to avoid spreading unconfirmed or malicious information and to rely on official channels for updates.
A hearing is scheduled to take place last week, which may shed more light on the situation.
