From January to March, Querétaro received $302 million in foreign direct investment (FDI), showing a slower pace of inflows compared to the previous year, according to the Ministry of Economy (SE).
This amount represented a 53.6% decrease compared to the same quarter in 2024, when the state totaled $651.3 million.
Once again, reinvestment of profits accounted for the largest share of foreign investment, contributing $256.9 million and representing 85.1 percent.
Through intercompany accounts, it received $23.4 million, 7.7% of the total; in addition to $21.7 million in new investments, representing 7.2 percent.
Between the first quarter of 2024 and the same period in 2025, reinvestment of profits fell 58.9%, from $625.3 million to $256.9 million.
In the same period, intercompany FDI increased by -2.9%, from $24.1 million to $23.4 million.
New investments are the only segment that gained value in the last year, rising from just $2 million in the first quarter of 2024 to $21.7 million this year.
The total accumulated FDI between January and March 2025 is the lowest amount for a first quarter in the last nine years. It is preceded by 2016, when it received $282.9 million during that period.
Given the current trade relationship with the United States, the United States remained the main issuer of FDI in the state, accounting for $110.1 million, or 36.5% of the total flow. However, this figure was 55.8% lower than the first quarter of the previous year.
In second place is investment from Germany, which accounted for 27.7% of FDI; in third place is Italy, with 12.5%; followed by Canada, Japan, Brazil, and the Netherlands.
Manufacturing industries are the driving force of foreign investment received by the state, totaling $267.1 million in the first quarter and representing 88.4% of FDI; however, they experienced an annual decline of 30.3 percent.
Thus, the sectors that received the most capital were the chemical industry, transportation equipment manufacturing, and machinery and equipment manufacturing, among others.
With accumulated FDI in the first quarter, Querétaro ranked tenth among the 32 states, maintaining the same position as in accumulated investment from 2006 to March 2025.
The quarterly result places Mexico City in first place with $11.806 billion; Among the 10 states with the most investment are Nuevo León, State of Mexico, Baja California, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Coahuila, Chihuahua and Puebla.
