Fallen trees, collapsed roofs, potholes in roads, and power outages are some of the damage caused by the passage of Tropical Storm Dalila’s cloud bands through the Oaxaca Coast region.
The damage caused by the rain and gusty winds was reported in the municipalities of San Pedro Pochutla, Santa María Tonameca, San Pedro Mixtepec, Pinotepa Nacional, and Santa María Huazolotitlán.
The Municipal Civil Protection Coordination of Santa María Tonameca reported damage to Federal Coastal Highway 200 in the section from kilometer 167 to kilometer 206.
In Puerto Escondido, the gusty winds caused waves to reach the restaurant area on Zicatela Beach.
In an interview with MILENIO, Darío Pérez Morales, Municipal Civil Protection Coordinator in Pinotepa Nacional, stated that the gusts of wind and rain in the area left several homes with partial roof damage, as well as power outages in neighborhoods in the urban area and some communities.
He said that Municipal Civil Protection personnel responded to reports of fallen trees and landslides on some sections of the Pinotepa Nacional-Acapulco coastal federal highway.
The State Coordination of Civil Protection and Risk Management reported that, due to the broad spiral bands of Tropical Storm Dalila, atmospheric instability persists, which will cause moderate to heavy rains.
He also indicated that waves will remain high, ranging from 3.5 to 4.5 meters, with strong swells and rip currents along the coastline.
